One of the lessons I've learned along the way as a dancer is that it's a bad idea to perform to a song if you don't know what it's about.
Some songs have religious or political meanings. Some sound happy but have very sad lyrics. Others can have very racy subject matter that's not appropriate for some audiences. It's important to know what you're dancing to so that you choose music appropriate to your venue and understand your music. For example, you wouldn't want to be dancing at a wedding to a song about a jilted lover OR find out that the upbeat music you just danced to is actually a battle song about going to war! These are real-life examples from dancers I have known!
I almost always have the music I use translated if there are lyrics and I would like to share the translations with other dancers. As I have more songs translated I will add them to this page so that anyone interested in English translations of Arabic songs can access them.
Most of the song lyrics below have each Arabic line transliterated into the Roman alphabet, followed by the English translation so you can follow along line by line.
